Discovery House Peer Mentors in Residence Leadership Opportunity

Discovey House Peer mentors are students who were part of the Discovery House program in their first year and now will serve as mentors to current students. Mentors responsibilities include the following

To promote and encourage a dynamic, positive and fun academic environment in their respective Discovery House
To act as a liaison to the Office of Learning Communities and assist in the design, promotion and implementation of engaging academic programs in their respective Discovery House
To keep residents informed regarding pertinent academic policies, deadlines and events at SAS and its affiliates
Provide support to students who are academically at-risk and to help those students have a better knowledge and awareness of on-campus resources, and the faculty and staff members who are willing to assist them.

All positions are currently filled for 2007-2008

Discovery House Peer Advisory Board

The Peer Advisory Board consists of student representatives from each Discovery House and the students will assist and advise the Learning Communities and Residence Life staff in the following ways:

Serve as a liaison to the learning communities' office to share experiences of the Discovery House students.
Identify interests and needs of the Discovery House members that can be addressed through enrichment activities and support services.
Identify ways to better market and publicize the Discovery House Program to potential first-year students.
Be a part of select recruitment activities for incoming first year students to promote Discovery House program.
Provide leadership for the Discovery House participants through the spring 2008 semester for programs, events, and offsite trips.
Help plan and organize at least one event in the spring semester.
Share information about the Discovery House student experience in residence and make suggestions for improvements.
Identify successes and challenges associated with the residential component of the learning community.
