Rosalind Franklin House

Winkler Hall, Busch Campus

The Rosalind Franklin House is a unique living-learning community for first and second year female students who plan to pursue majors in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Students will share a supportive academic residential community with undergraduate peer mentors, develop friendships with other women interested in science, and have the convenience of academic support services in residence; math, chemistry and writing.

 

 

What are the benefits of joining the Rosalind Franklin Living-Learning Community?

  • Support system for community of women interested in typically male dominated majors: Science, Math, Engineering, or Technology majors

Where will I live?

Students accepted into the program will live in Winkler Suites on Busch Campus.

Winkler Hall is a residence traditionally for upperclassmen. It is a 4-story building with an elevator. Six people share one suite. Rooms are carpeted, air cooled, have computer access and provide cable TV. In addition each suite has its own bathroom and living room. The building offers a spacious main lounge and kitchen on the first floor. There are lounges on every floor with laundry facilities. Close to Winkler hall are the Busch Campus Center, Busch Dining Hall, Paul Robeson Cultural Center and Sonny Werblin Recreation Center (premier athletic facility).

Eligibility
  

1.  Open to first-year women affiliated with SAS and SEBS

 

2.   Students in this community must receive a math placement score at the Calculus level to apply.  To determine eligibility, students must take math placement exams by June 2nd

The Rosalind Franklin Commitment 

Under the mentorship of a graduate student mentor, students will enjoy the benefits of being co-enrolled in a one credit First Year Interest Group Seminar (FIGS): Exploring Careers in the Sciences, special programs in residence and a peer mentor program to assist in answering questions and navigating Rutgers. 

Members of the Rosalind Franklin community will be expected to:

  • Attend and participate in programs; students will be required to attend at least two programs a semester with programs ranging from 1-2 hours.
  • Support the academic success of community members.
  • Attend monthly community meetings in residence.
  • Abide by all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as outlined by the Rutgers Residence Life and Housing offices.
