Achievement in Math & Science (AIMS) Learning Communities

Living-Learning and Commuter Program*
Metzger Hall, Busch Campus or Perry Hall, Cook Campus

Achievement in Math and Science (AIMS) learning communities are for first-year students considering studies in science, math, or technology and who have received a math placement score at the Intermediate Algebra or Pre-Calculus level. Students in these communities have the option of receiving academic support in math, chemistry and writing.


Why should I join the AIMS living-learning community?
Students who join this program will benefit from the following enhancements:

  • Meet other first-year students who share the same courses and academic interests…make new friends quickly.
  • Have priority placement in reserved math and writing sections
  • Special reserved section of First-year Interest Group Seminar (FIGS) Exploring Careers in the Sciences
  • Learn more about Rutgers and its resources
  • Have a peer mentor assigned to you to help you learn all the insider information about Rutgers
  • Access to academic support and study strategies sessions in math, chemistry and biology
  • Academic Coaching
  • Attend STEM based programs hosted by your graduate advisor and peer mentors in your areas of interest providing you with more opportunities for academic and professional success

Eligibility

  1. Open to first-year students affiliated with SAS and SEBS
  2. Students in this community must receive a math placement score at the Intermediate Algebra or Pre-Calculus level; students must take math placement exams by June 3

Participation Requirements
Students will enjoy the benefits being co-enrolled in three first year courses required for science/math majors, special events and a peer mentoring program to assist in answering questions and navigating Rutgers.

* This community is offered as a residential and commuter program. If you are a residential student, you must reside in either Metzger Hall or Perry Hall.


Application Process: 

  1. Application will open April 15th.
  2. Students may choose to attend an information session to learn more about the AIMS program
  3. Students must complete an AIMS Online Application and will be contacted for a phone Interview.
  4. Residential Students: Indicate AIMS and the residential campus you wish to reside on through the housing application on the enrollment pathway

AIMS Community at Metzger Hall (Busch Campus)
Students accepted into the program will live in Metzger Hall on the Busch Campus. Metzger Hall is a residence for first-year students and offers a community lounge with laundry, TV and pool and foosball tables. Rooms are carpeted with blinds and are air-cooled! Rooms have computer access, telephone, cable TV and a micro fridge unit (Microwave with refrigerator). Close to Metzger are the Busch Campus Center, Busch Dining Hall, Libraries Annex, Intramural fields and the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center (premier athletic facility).

AIMS Community at Perry Hall (Cook Campus)
Students accepted into the program will live in Perry Hall on the Cook Campus. Perry Hall is a residence for first- year students and offers a community lounge, kitchen, laundry and bathroom/shower facilities on each floor. Rooms are carpeted with computer access, air conditioners and micro fridges. Close to Perry hall are the Cook Campus center, Cook/Douglass recreation center, intramural fields and the Neilson Dining Hall.
